Considering North Korea as a Tourism Destination
Richard Bangs not only considered it, he worked with the North Korean government for many years to finally bring the first US tourists to this 'Hermit Kingdom' in Sept of 2012.
These forerunners of North Korean tourism agreed to deposit their cell phones in plastic bags and hand them over for safe keeping while inside of North Korea. The US tourists were allowed to take cameras, laptops, and tablets inside the country.

Richard (known as the Father of Modern Adventure Travel) is also the co founder of Expedia and Mountain Sobek Travel. He is passionate about leading unique tour experiences all over the world and his trip to North Korea is true to form.
Come listen at his knee as he describes in a fire side chat, the journey and the people he and his friends met along the way. His enthusiasm is infectious and his hope for a better future through travel is believable.

We celebrate the industry with Sharon Baron Lobo this week as we discuss an organization that is close to my heart, Airline Ambassadors International. This non profit organization is an amazing organization filled with flight attendants that represent the needs of children around the world. Sharon, a flight attendant and a member of AAI will be talking about the RocknRoll Marathon and how it is supporting the AAI.
Sandy also has some fun with the Roasted Chestnut Man from London. If you have been to World Travel Mart, you might remember Gus who religiously attends to his station directly outside Excel every night. Take a listen to this unique character, he is full of love, light and laughter. And then finally, we look at new company on our radar, called FareBuzz. Archives are ready for you to download or listen to on demand. |
